Thallid’s “Eternal Spiritual Conquest” is an abstract black metal journey into the bizarre. Staying consistent with their previous two releases, this full length album delivers a more focused and extensive demonstration of their twisted and antiquated vision. Thallid carries a torch for their raw symphonic black metal and medieval ambient predecessors, however their demented approach and phantasmal themes appear more reflective of Thomas Ligotti’s universe rather than that of Tolkien, or other presumed medieval fantasy. “Eternal Spiritual Conquests” offers something both familiar and new for fans of raw and symphonic black metal, and continues the unorthodox path of the deranged duo that is Thallid.
